DHARAMSALA, India (AP) Left-arm pace bowler James Faulkner and offspinner Glenn Maxwell returned identical figures of 2-18 as Australia restricted New Zealand to 142-8 in their World Twenty20 Group 2 game on Friday.

Faulkner and Maxwell dismissed well-set openers Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson, who combined for 61 into the eighth over.

Guptill struck 39 off 27 balls with two fours and four sixes, and captain Williamson made 24, but the team could not build much on the strong start.

Colin Munro chipped in with 23 but he, too, fell when looking good for a bigger knock.

Grant Elliott produced a useful 20-ball 27 coming in at No. 6.

Maxwell also took two catches and was involved in a run out.
