New Zealand 74-3 vs Australia at lunch on day 1, 2nd test
CHRISTCHURCH, New Zealand (AP) Brendon McCullum's last match for New Zealand has started badly with the home side slumping to 74-3 against Australia at lunch on the opening day Saturday of the second test.
McCullum went on the offensive in his 101st test and tried to turn the match around before lunch, dashing an unbeaten 37 from 18 balls. Kane Williamson batted 96 minutes to be 7 not out.
The fact McCullum was at the wicket before lunch on the opening day demonstrated Australia's strong position after it won the toss and bowled.
Batting at No. 5, McCullum found himself at the crease half an hour before lunch with New Zealand 32-3. He immediately took the fight to Australia, swiping the second ball he faced over slip for four then hitting 21 runs - two sixes, two fours, and a single - from an over from Mitchell Marsh.
