The second of my four NBA mock drafts. Starting with this one, they'll now consist of both rounds. The actual draft is June 26.
First Round
1. Cavaliers: Jabari Parker, 6-8, F, Duke. Considered the most NBA-ready of all the potential stars. Should be a career 20-point scorer. Couldn't even defend a lot of rec-league types.
2. Bucks: Joel Embiid, 7-0, C, Kansas. Can change the course of your franchise with his size, athleticism and defense. But what about the lower back that couldn't hold up for 20-some games in college? Can it sustain the pounding of 82?
3. 76ers: Andrew Wiggins, 6-8, SF/SG, Kansas. World-class athlete with plenty of basketball skills. Could go first. Can't go left. Sometimes a little too casual.
4. Magic: Julius Randle, 6-9, PF, Kentucky. Strong underneath, athletic, skilled. Seems to be sliding as draft approaches. Can he defend on low blocks?
5. Jazz: Dante Exum, 6-6, PG/SG, Australia. A little bit of a mystery, which often helps more than it hurts. Good ball-handler, athletic, smooth. Considered soft.
6. Celtics: Noah Vonleh, 6-9, C/F, Indiana. Athletic energy guy with developing skills. Little bit of a risk here, but if nothing else, he'll be a solid rim-protector.
7. Lakers: Marcus Smart, 6-3, PG, Oklahoma State. Would have been a top-three pick had he come out last summer. Little bit of a knucklehead. Strong for a guard, can run a team. Needs work on shot.
8. Kings: Doug McDermott, 6-8, F, Creighton. Very steady, crafty, can score in a number of ways. Not great in any other area. Should be role player at worst. Has star potential.
9. Hornets: James Young, 6-7, SF/SG, Kentucky. Athletic lefty who can fill it up. Inconsistent, but really good when on. A little bit of a reach here. Huge upside.
10. 76ers: Aaron Gordon, 6-9, PF, Arizona. Will give his body to the cause. Only wants to win. Strong, athletic, smart. Could use some time alone in gym.
11. Nuggets: Zach LaVine, 6-6, SG/PG, UCLA. All-around game, athleticism has him climbing. Uneven college season has scouts a little concerned. Worth the risk here.
12. Magic: Dario Saric, 6-10, F, Croatia. Big and skilled, can play on the perimeter. Another softie. Lousy defender.
13. Timberwolves: Gary Harris, 6-4, SG, Michigan State. Little undersized for his style of play/position. Not super athletic. Intelligent and can get off his shot. Winner.
14. Suns: Nik Stauskas, 6-6, SG, Michigan. No one in draft can shoot as well coming off a pick. May not offer much else. Underrated passer.
15. Hawks: Rodney Hood, 6-8, SF, Duke. Smooth operator. Can shoot the rock. Smart player who can still get better.
16. Bulls: Elfrid Payton, 6-4, PG, Louisiana-Lafayette. Best player on the board here. Could climb. Good athlete with strong point guard skills. Plays with passion.
17. Celtics: Shabazz Napier, 6-0, PG, Connecticut. One tough cookie. Can run a team. NBA-ready point guard skills. Smallish frame a concern.
18. Suns: Kyle Anderson, 6-9, SF, UCLA. Unique player with unique set of skills. Draws comparisons to Boris Diaw. Good passer, ball-handler. Softie. Casual. Talented.
19. Bulls: Cleanthony Early, 6-7, F, Wichita State. Can out-hustle opponents into submission. Underrated skills. Doesn't really have a postion. Not a super duper athlete, but good enough.
20. Raptors: Adreian Payne, 6-10, PF, Michigan State. Explosive, big, nice range on jumper. Not going to create for anyone. Can be a hindrance defensively.
21. Thunder: Jerami Grant, 6-8, SF, Syracuse. Athletic wing. Runs floor and finishes with the best. Reminds some scouts of Sixers' Thaddeus Young. Not there yet.
22. Grizzlies: Glen Robinson III, 6-7, SF, Michigan. Plays above the rim. Runs the floor, finishes with style. Lacks aggressiveness. Inconsistent focus.
23. Jazz: Clint Capela, 6-11, PF/C, Switzerland. Athletic with major upside. Often looks lost, lazy. Huge risk, perhaps huge reward. Sort of a Bismack Biyombo-type.
24. Hornets: Tyler Ennis, 6-2, PG, Syracuse. Gifted floor leader who looks to pass first. Can score when needed, never forces anything. Extremely steady. Nothing about him knocks socks off.
25. Rockets: T.J. Warren, 6-8, SF, NC State. Natural scorer. Finds ways to put ball in basket. Not athletic, not overly strong. Tweener in the truest sense.
26. Heat: C.J. Wilcox, 6-5, SG, Washington. Lethal perimeter shooter. Can get open, knock it down. Nothing else to his game.
27. Suns: Mitch McGary, 6-10, PF/C, Michigan. Tough, hustling-type. Athletic, strong. Back a major concern. Attitude, desire occasionally questioned.
28. Clippers: P.J. Hairston, 6-4, SG, North Carolina/D-League. Talented scorer with big upside. Intriguing, dynamic. Still, does nothing remarkably well.
29. Thunder: Markel Brown, 6-4, SG, Oklahoma State. Remarkable dunker. Major threat in transition. Can't handle ball or shoot very well.
30. Spurs: Spencer Dinwiddie, 6-6, PG/SG, Colorado. Very smooth, very smart. Can handle ball, run offense, or score in key. Lacks consistency, aggressiveness.
