FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- In a tune-up before the start of the season next week, the Northern Arizona men’s basketball team lost 92-85 to Arizona Christian in an exhibition game Wednesday night at the Rolle Activity Center.

Sophomore DeWayne Russell led NAU with 27 points on 8-of-11 shooting. Russell also made 10 out of 11 free throw shots to go along with five assists. Freshman Kris Yanku added 12 points, making all eight of his free-throw attempts. Senior Max Jacobsen and junior Quinton Upshur chipped in 10 points apiece.

Northern Arizona shot 50 percent from the floor for the game, but 13 turnovers hurt the Lumberjacks’ offensive effort.

Arizona Christian made 11 three-pointers and shot 48.3 percent from the field. Brandon Newman scored 27 and Talib Uqdah had 19 for the Firestorm.

The Lumberjacks will begin regular season play on the road next weekend when they travel to San Antonio, Texas to face UTSA on Nov. 9.
