NAU clobbers Southern Utah on the road
CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Aaseem Dixon scored 21 points as Northern Arizona went up by 27 at the end of the first half and clobbered Southern Utah 81-60 on Saturday night.
Dixon sank 4 of 4 from beyond the arc in the first half for the Lumberjacks (10-11, 5-3 Big Sky Conference) who finished the period with a total of eight 3-pointers. Quinton Upshur finished with 17 points and Kris Yanku had 10. Zachary Reynolds was high rebounder with 10 boards.
Northern Arizona utterly dominated the first period and led 47-20 at the break. In the second half, Southern Utah doubled its first-period performance -- scoring 40 points -- but it was not enough and the Lumberjacks cruised to the win, leading Southern Utah by 20 or more throughout the entire final period.
"Give credit to Southern Utah. They've been undefeated at home in league play here, but I'm really proud of our play tonight," NAU coach Jack Murphy said. "We guarded from stop to finish and we didn't let up. It was nice to see us play together as a team. We passed the ball well and did what we needed to get the victory tonight."
Tyler Rawson and Sherron Wilson had nine points apiece for the Thunderbirds (5-14, 2-6).
