NAU athletics leads Big Sky in grad rates
FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Northern Arizona University athletics posted a school-best 83 percent rate Graduation Success Rate for the second consecutive year according to data released by the NCAA on Thursday. It was the highest among the three state schools and best in the Big Sky Conference.
The 83 percent graduation success rate equaled the best mark for NAU since the NCAA created the system. NAU has improved from a 59 percent GSR for the four-year period reported in 2007. NAU recorded a 67 percent in 2008, 70 percent in 2009, 75 percent in 2010 and 83 percent last year.
The golf and volleyball programs had a perfect mark at 100, with soccer, women’s basketball, women’s swimming and diving and women’s track and field/cross country also scoring 90 or better. Swimming and diving has been above 90 percent for seven straight seasons.
The football program (72) equaled its highest rate for the second consecutive season.
The GSR measures graduation rates at Division I institutions and includes students-athletes transferring into the institutions. The GSR also allows institutions to subtract student-athletes who leave their institutions prior to graduation as long as they would have been academically eligible to compete had they remained.
