National TV outlets taking notice of Wolves
MINNEAPOLIS – The Minnesota Timberwolves announced their 2012-13 schedule on Thursday, which will open with a Nov. 2 matchup at the Target Center against the Sacramento Kings.
The Timberwolves will be featured on national television 14 times next season, the most since they appeared 19 times in 2005-06. Seven of those games will take place at the Target Center. They will also appear on TNT three times: Dec. 20 against the Thunder, Jan. 17 against the Clippers and Feb. 28 against the Lakers.
Some of the biggest home games will come Feb. 1 and March 27 against the Lakers, March 4 against the Heat, Dec. 20 and March 29 against the Thunder and on March 24 against the Bulls.
The Timberwolves' increased national exposure comes after a 2011-12 season in which the team averaged an attendance of 17,491, its highest since 2003-04. There were 11 Target Center sellouts in 33 home games.
The longest home stand of the season comes from Jan. 30 to Feb. 8, when the Timberwolves play six games at home against the Clippers, Lakers, Hornets, Trail Blazers, Spurs and Knicks. The longest road trips are both four days long, from Nov. 23-28 and Jan. 9-14.
On the heels of a post-lockout season, the Timberwolves schedule in 2012-13 is significantly lighter by comparison; it features 22 back-to-back games but no back-to-back-to-backs.
The team will end the season April 17 in San Antonio.
