Myers gets 400th win in ASU softball's sweep
TEMPE, Ariz. – The Arizona State softball team put up a combined 13 runs in the first inning of its doubleheader games Saturday against Pittsburgh en route to a 10-0 mercy-rule win in the opener and an 8-2 victory in the nightcap.
The latter win gave ASU coach Clint Myers the 400th of his career and improved the Sun Devils to 23-1 on the season.
Mackenzie Popescue got her 10th win of the season in the five-inning mercy-rule win, and Dallas Escobedo followed with a dominant 15-strikeout performance in the second game.
Elizabeth Caporuscio and Cheyenne Coyle each had a homer on the day, with Caporuscio's her third of the season and Coyle's her team-leading ninth.
Myers is the third head coach in program history with 400 wins. Linda Wells is ASU's all-time leader with a 561-415 record in 15 years; Myers is 400-91 in his six-year tenure. His .814 winning percentage ranks second among all Division I coaches, trailing only in-state rival Mike Candrea of Arizona.
