The Jim L. Mora era at UCLA officially got under way on Monday. There are three players who won't be around to see how it pans out.

Three players are no longer members of the team, the school announced on Monday.

Freshman tight end Raymond Nelson and redshirt sophomore defensive end Wesley Flowers have been dismissed from the team for what the school says is a violation of team rules. Junior defensive back Randall Carroll has been dismissed from the university for academic reasons.

The announcement comes on the heels of Mora's first meeting with the team early Monday.

"At UCLA, we have a high set of standards that we expect every student-athlete to adhere to. Unfortunately, these three gentlemen choose not to do so," Mora said in a statement.

Nelson is the brother of former UCLA basketball player Reeves Nelson, who was dismissed from the basketball team earlier this season. Raymond Nelson did not record a reception in 2011. He was the 25th-rated tight end in the country coming out of Modesto Christian.

Flowers, a backup defensive end, did not see any game action.

Carroll started the season at wide receiver before making the switch to cornerback in the Bruins' win over Arizona State in November. He was highly touted coming out of Cathedral High School, where he was a first-team USA Today All-American. He was also a member of the UCLA track and field team.

He caught three passes for 34 yards as a wide receiver. Defensively he recorded two tackles. As a sophomore in 2010, he played in all 12 games and made 15 catches for 242 yards and two touchdowns.
