MLS Roundup: Le Toux penalty gives Philly a point, Perez propels FC Dallas
Philadelphia 2 – New York 2
Sebastien Le Toux converted a penalty kick in the dying embers of the game to claim a point for the Union at PPL Park. Most of the action on this rainy day in Chester unfolded in the late stages of the first half. Peguy Luyindula procured and dispatched a penalty after 37 minutes. Thierry Henry doubled the lead with his deflected effort three minutes later, but Pedro Ribeiro’s first MLS goal in the ensuing moments reduced the deficit. Le Toux then eliminated it entirely with his tidy penalty in the late stages to lift the Union to a point.
FC Dallas 2 – Vancouver 1
Blas Perez struck twice to provide FCD with the points at Toyota Stadium. The Panamanian international striker opened his account on the night with a cross that drifted inside the far post after 20 minutes. Erik Hurtado equalized after 67 minutes for the Whitecaps, but Perez pounced again inside the final quarter of an hour to collect maximum points.
Chicago 1 – Toronto FC 1
Dwayne De Rosario scored his first goal of the season in the waning stages to give the Reds a point at Toyota Park. Lovel Palmer staked Chicago to a lead after 11 minutes when he headed home Sanna Nyassi’s service. The advantage held until De Rosario drifted free inside the goal area and poked home the remnants of a corner to condemn the Fire to yet another draw.
Houston 2 – Columbus 2
The visitors staged a second-half revival to claim a point at BBVA Compass Stadium. Houston gained firm control of the proceedings through an Aaron Schoenfeld own goal after 12 minutes and a Giles Barnes effort seven minutes before the break. Wil Trapp issued a response with his effort from distance three minutes after halftime. Ethan Finlay then procured the equalizer six minutes later to give the Crew a precious point.
Colorado 2 – Portland 2
Gaston Fernández popped up in the final quarter of an hour to give the Timbers a point in Commerce City. Diego Valeri opened the scoring for the visitors two minutes before the break by thrashing Fanendo Adi’s flick past John Berner. Dillon Powers responded from the spot three minutes into the second half. Deshorn Brown nodded home to stake the Rapids to a lead, but Fernández responded to snatch a point in the late stages to bolster the Timbers’ push for the fifth and final playoff spot.
New England 2 – Montréal 1
The home side produced its third straight victory from a losing position with a two-goal response against the Impact. Calum Mallace opened the scoring for the makeshift visitors when he swept home a Jack McInerney square pass, but Kelyn Rowe and Lee Nguyen replied in short order to turn around the proceedings. Krzysztof Krol earned his second booking after the interval to help the Revs see out the game and sustain their playoff push.
Seattle 3 – Real Salt Lake 2
Andy Rose broke 10-man RSL’s resistance with a late winner at CenturyLink Field. Javier Morales opened the scoring on the half-hour, but Lamar Neagle and Obafemi Martins responded to give Sounders FC the halftime lead. Joao Plata replied five minutes after play resumed, but Nat Borchers’ dismissal for hauling down Martins after 68 minutes invited Seattle forward to procure a winner. It finally arrived in the final seconds as Rose thrashed a DeAndre Yedlin knockdown inside the far post to claim the points.
Chivas USA 0 – Sporting Kansas City 4
Four different scorers placed Sporting back on the proper path with a straightforward victory at StubHub Center. Dom Dwyer, Benny Feilhaber and Graham Zusi struck within a 12-minute period to erase any doubt about the result. Claudio Bieler added the fourth in the final minutes to end Sporting’s four-match losing streak in some style.
