MLB Quick Hits: Bad news for Miller, Cozart
The Yankees have placed closer Andrew Miller on the DL with a strained flexor mass muscle in his elbow. The team said that Miller's elbow ligaments are healthy, and the current plan is for the lefty to rest for 10-14 days before any next steps are decided. Dellin Betances will close during Miller's absence.
Reds SS Zack Cozart, who has been surprisingly productive at the plate, is probably headed for the DL after injuring his knee on Wednesday. While we don't yet know the severity of Cozart's injury, NL-owners should snatch up real-life replacement Eugenio Suarez, who is batting .256 with eight home runs at Triple A. Cozart owners in shallower leagues can target Wilmer Flores (owned in 14.7 percent of FOXSports.com leagues), Jung Ho Kang (13.3 percent owned), Matt Duffy (7.4 percent owned) and Brad Miller (3 percent owned). Kang and Miller are my favorites from that group.
In other news ...
Jim Johnson closed out the Braves' Wednesday win, but it sounds like Jason Grilli just needed a day off. Nothing to see here.
Look for Rockies OF Corey Dickerson (foot) to come off the DL as soon as tonight in Miami.
The Padres have sent Jedd Gyorko to the minors, and are likely to reactivate OF/1B Wil Myers (wrist) today.
Mariners DH Nelson Cruz (back) will probably return to the lineup today after a one-game absence.
Today's schedule includes three afternoon games, starting with Padres-Braves and Mariners-Indians at 12:10 p.m. ET.
Erasmo Ramirez wasn't spectacular on Wednesday, but he got the win and was good enough as our streaming starter pick. Today's selection is Cleveland's Shaun Marcum (0.8 percent owned) against the Mariners. The options aren't great, and the enthusiasm here for Marcum is lukewarm.
DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, salaries from DraftKings, night games only): Tonight's slate includes a motley crew of pitchers. Fortunately, I can't help but surpass Wednesday's negative-6.10 tally from the hideous Bauer/Hahn pairing ... I'm going to throw a couple of darts at Wade Miley ($6,600) and Tsuyoshi Wada ($6,800). Miley faces the Orioles, who aren't great against LHP (.298 wOBA), while Wada and the Cubs are the night's biggest favorite (-157) ... With such a limited schedule and non-expensive starters, you almost have to play Giancarlo Stanton ($5,800) and Buster Posey ($4,100) vs. LHP ... Adam Lind ($4,300) and Lucas Duda ($3,500) are solid 1B options if you don't want to pay premium prices ... Jeff Baker ($2,900) has one purpose in life, and it's to hit LHP (.372 career wOBA). He fits at 2B/1B ... If you want to save at SS, the play is probably J.J. Hardy ($3,100) vs. Miley ... If you don't believe in Miley, you can start some more Oriole righties (Adam Jones, Delmon Young, Steve Pearce, Manny Machado) against him ... Giants OF Justin Maxwell ($2,700) should play vs. Mets LHP Jon Niese with Hunter Pence hurt. If you need a cheap outfielder, it's him.
See you back here tomorrow morning.
