Did you think it couldn't get any worse for Michigan's defense?

Well, incredibly, it did.

Cornerback J.T. Floyd will undergo ankle surgery for ligament damage and miss the remainder of the season, coach Rich Rodriguez announced Wednesday.

Floyd was injured during practice on Tuesday. He has been the team's best defensive back this season.

The Wolverines lost their other top cornerback, Troy Woolfolk, during preseason practice because of a broken leg and dislocated ankle.

Michigan ranks No. 117 nationally in pass defense, allowing 290.5 yards per game.

Freshman Courtney Avery is expected to replace Floyd in the starting lineup.

U-M tries to snap a three-game losing streak Saturday at home against Illinois.
