Michael Irvin to Cowboys: 'Finish the journey' and win Super Bowl 50
Michael Irvin was a passionate player during his Hall of Fame career, and he's still passionate about the franchise where he became a legend and won three Super Bowls.
The Cowboys haven't come close to winning it all since Irvin's days in Dallas in the 1990s, and he's tired of all the talk about the team losing year after year since.
During the annual Cowboys kickoff luncheon on Wednesday, Irvin delivered a speech that he hopes will motivate the current team to reach Super Bowl 50 this season.
"Tired of hearing [the players] talk about, 'I'm going to leave my mark on this league, I'm going to leave my mark on this league,'" Irvin said, according to 247Sports. "Let me tell you how to leave your mark. It's not about how much money you make, it's not about how much fame you gain. It's about finishing the journey. You want to leave your mark? Finish the journey."
"And you have something with you this year. I told you since 1960, that's 55 years (the Cowboys franchise has) been here. I told you we have five Super Bowls. I don't care how you get there, you've got to work with those fives. Fifty-five, five, and this is Super Bowl 50. You understand? 55 minus five equals 50. You could even say, the last Super Bowl we won was Super Bowl 30, 20 years ago -- 30 plus 20 equals 50. I don't care how you get there, I don't care how you come up with it. You just make sure at the end of this year, you make sure the golden team in the NFL is winning the golden super Bowl of the NFL."
