Senior center Reggie Johnson will miss six to eight weeks with a broken thumb, the University of Miami announced Sunday.
The injury occured in Hawaii during a practice for the Diamond Head Classic. The school initially reported it as a jammed thumb.
Without Johnson -- who is averaging 12.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game this season -- the Hurricanes dropped two of three games in the Christmas weekend tournament.
The Hurricanes (8-3) face La Salle at home Wednesday, before starting ACC play at Georgia Tech on Saturday.
