Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez finished third in the Baseball Writers' Association of America's National League Cy Young voting Wednesday night.
The 21-year-old, who won the NL Rookie of the Year award on Monday, collected 62 points with nine second-place and three third-place votes.
Dodgers left-hander Clayton Kershaw captured his second Cy Young, while Cardinals right-hander Adam Wainwright earned runner-up.
In 28 starts, Fernandez went 12-6 with a 2.19 ERA (second-lowest in MLB behind Kershaw's 1.83), a .182 batting average against (best in MLB) and 0.98 WHIP (fourth-best in MLB).
After the All-Star game, which he attended as the lone Marlins representative and pitched a scoreless frame, Fernandez posted a 7-1 record and a Major League-low 1.32 ERA amongst starters.
Fernandez was originally set to start the season in Double-A Jacksonville before right-handers Nathan Eovaldi and Henderson Alavrez sustained injuries. He became the rotation's ace before turning 21 on July 31.
Miami placed an innings limit on him before the season, with his last outing on Sept. 11 against the Braves. He threw seven one-run innings in a win over Atlanta, capping 2013 with 172 2/3 frames.
When asked whether he was surprised by his success, Fernandez said he wasn't. Miami's 14th overall pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft had never pitched above Class A until 2013.
"I try to go to the field every day and try to get better and help my team to win," Fernandez told MLB Network. "That's how I go about it."
