Mejia heads 3 Wildcats on All-America team
Pac-12 Player of the Year Alex Mejia headlined three Arizona baseball players named to the Louisville Slugger All-America teams announced by Collegiate Baseball on Tuesday.
Mejia, UA’s junior shortstop, was a first-team selection, while junior pitcher Kurt Heyer was named to the second team and junior third baseman Seth Mejias-Brean was named to the third team. Mejia becomes the first player to earn first team distinction from the organization since pitcher Preston Guilmet in 2007.
On Wednesday, Mejia was named the Pac-12’s Player of the Year and its Defensive Player of the Year while being named to the All-Conference team for a second season in a row. He is hitting .357 with 47 runs scored and 46 RBI.
Heyer, a three-time All-Pac-12 selection, is 11-2 with a 2.03 ERA over a conference-leading 119.2 innings. He's second in the Pac-12 with 91 strikeouts.
Mejias-Brean is hitting .351 with 50 runs scored and 52 RBI.
The Wildcats, who shared the Pac-12 title with UCLA, open NCAA regional play on Friday, hosting Missouri at 8 pm.. at Hi Corbett Field.
