Meet the world's fastest man - sort of
Japan's Kenichi Ito can run the 100-yard dash in 16.87 seconds on all fours. That mark, set this week, is a world record for a human running 100 meters on hands and feet and shattered last year's time of 17.47 seconds.
People call him "The Monkey Man," for reasons that are obvious if you watched that video. But he doesn't mind because he likes monkeys anyway.
"You know my face and body kind of looks like a monkey, so from a young age everyone used to tease me, saying 'monkey, monkey,'" Ito told the International Business Times. "But I wasn't really bothered because I really liked them, and somewhere inside of me I had this ambition to adopt one of their traits."
Ito came upon this skill by walking around on all fours in Tokyo for the last eight years, mimicking the gait of the African Patas monkey.
"In the streets around here I get stopped by the police, so I went up into the mountains for about a month for a kind of four-legged running training camp," he told Reuters. "But on the first day, a hunter mistook me for a wild boar, and he tried to shoot me."
