FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we continue a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.

Cory Gearrin

Position:
Relief pitcher
Height: 6-3; Weight: 200
Bat/Throw: R/R
Hometown: Chattanooga, Tenn.
Experience: Second year

2011 in review: The side-armer spent most of the season at Triple-A Gwinnett, but he pitched 18 games for the Braves, going 1-1 with a 7.85 ERA in 18 1/3 innings. Gearrin started strong, but his ERA took a hit when he allowed six runs in 1/3 of an inning on July 10 and then four runs in one inning on July 19. He spent the rest of the season at Gwinnett.

Career highlight: He earned his first major-league victory by pitching a scoreless inning against Houston on May 17, but was optioned to Gwinnett after the game.

Outlook: Gearrin, who has worked with former Brave Gene Garber to develop his changeup, is battling for one of the final spots in the bullpen. He has had a strong spring with three strikeouts and a 0.55 WHIP in 3 2/3 scoreless innings through Sunday.

You should know: Gearrin lived with fellow pitchers Mike Minor and Brandon Beachy in the trendy Atlanta neighborhood of Buckhead last year.

Wednesday: Chipper Jones
