McAllister to make rehab start for Lake County on Wednesday

CLEVELAND -- Zach McAllister's bullpen session on Sunday went well, paving the way for a rehab start.

The right-hander, who was placed on the disabled list on May 23 with a lower back strain, will pitch for Class-A Lake County on Wednesday against Fort Wayne. Lake County is the only Indians' affiliate that is home this week.

Terry Francona did not rule out McAllister making just one rehab start and said that they want to see how things go. In his first four starts, McAllister was 3-0 and had an ERA of 2.28. In the past six, he was 0-4 with a 9.51 ERA.

SANTANA UPDATE: Carlos Santana, who remains on the seven-day DL due to concussion-related symptoms, was scheduled to take some swings off a batting tee today. Santana told Francona that he was hopeful of returning Wednesday against the Red Sox but Francona said that the medical staff thinks Friday is more realistic when the Tribe starts a 10-game road trip at Texas.

PROGRESS REPORT: Even though Jesus Aguilar is hitting only .188, Francona has been pleased with how he has played at first base. Aguilar made a couple nice plays in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Rockies, including being able to dig out a couple low throws.

"He has good feet around the bag and lowers his body good on ground balls to slow things down," Francona said. ""He stretches good. He's actually pretty nimble around the bag."

Lonnie Chisenhall has played close to the bag in the couple games where he has played first, but Francona thinks that he will start playing a little farther off the bag the more comfortable he gets playing the position.
