Mayo in Phoenix for visit with Suns

Free-agent guard O.J. Mayo is in Phoenix today, visiting with the Suns.

Mayo posted a picture on his Instagram account taken from the Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Camelback Road with the label "New Home?"

Mayo's agent said last week that the Rockets, Bulls, Celtics and Bobcats could be in the running for the four-year veteran. The Grizzlies declined to make a qualifying offer to Mayo and retain refusal rights, shifting Mayo's status from restricted free agent to unrestricted.

The Suns signed Hornets guard Eric Gordon to a four-year, $58 million offer sheet on Wednesday, but New Orleans is expected to match the offer -- but not until taking the full three days allotted, meaning at some point on Saturday.

The Suns lost Steve Nash to the Lakers, and while they've signed Goran Dragic to replace him at point guard, they've made no secret about looking for a running mate in the backcourt. President for Basketball Operations Lon Babby said Wednesday that the team has multiple "Plan B's" in case the Hornets matched the Gordon offer but declined to elaborate on them.

The 6-foot-4 Mayo, 24, averaged 12.6 points per game last year coming off the bench for Memphis but shot only 40.8 percent. He is a four-year veteran whose best two seasons where his first two. He averaged 18.5 points and shot 43.8 percent as a rookie in 2008-09 and 17.5 points on 45.8 percent shooting in 2009-10, starting all 82 games each season. He has primarily been used as a sixth man in the two seasons since.
