The Dallas Mavericks on Thursday suspended guard Delonte West for the second time in 10 days, citing conduct detrimental to the team.
"We have suspended Delonte for conduct detrimental to the team," GM Donnie Nelson said. "The suspension is effective immediately and no other statements will be issued."
He was suspended one day for the same reason just days ago.
The Mavericks didn't elaborate on that conduct, and West didn't either, though he did unload a string of Twitter posts that offer some insight.
"That my name showin up in any fashion in a negative light is the worst thing that can happen everything Ived worked towards out d window," West wrote.
He continued, "I love the city of Dallas..I love playin in the NBA...no I'm not off my meds...no I ain't on no bipolar trip...this real people lives."
West, who has been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, told the Dallas Morning News he was living in the Mavericks locker room for a while during the preseason, having sold nearly all his possessions in order to make ends meet. The Mavericks rented West a hotel room during training camp, but had to send him out on his own once the season started in order to avoid breaking NBA rules against extra benefits.
In 2010, West pleaded guilty to weapons charges in Maryland and was suspended for the first 10 games of the season.
An eight-year veteran in his second year with Dallas, West averaged 9.6 points and 3.2 assists in 24.1 minutes per game last year.
