Martin St. Louis, a key cog in the Lighting's NHL-best offense, was named the the NHL's third star for his play during the first week of the season, the league announced Monday.
St. Louis is tied for second in the league with eight assists for the Lightning, who are averaging 4.80 goals per game, tops in the NHL.
San Jose's Patrick Marleau was the first star, and Chicago's Corey Crawford was the second.
Tampa Bay is off to a 4-1 start through the first week of the season, and St. Louis has been perhaps the most important part of that success, scoring three goals (tied for the team lead) to go with those eight assists.
St. Louis was held without a point in just one of the team's first five games; in the other four, he registered at least two points in each contest. His 11 points are third in the NHL. Teammate Steven Stamkos is right behind him with 10.
