Marlins send Dan Jennings to Triple-A to make room for Jacob Turner

MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins optioned left-handed reliever Dan Jennings to Triple-A New Orleans following Friday night's 6-3 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Right-hander Jacob Turner, who has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 9 (retroactive to April 4) with a right shoulder sprain, will be reinstated and start Saturday's contest.

Jennings was 0-1 with a 1.74 ERA in 10 appearances. Seven of them were scoreless. He had eight strikeouts and four walks in 10 1/3 innings. The 27-year-old made his first Opening Day roster this season.

Miami will still have two southpaws in the bullpen -- setup man Mike Dunn and converted long reliever Brad Hand, who is out of options.

In his lone 2014 start, Turner gave up five runs on eight hits over six innings for a no decision against the Rockies.

"It's one of those tough decisions that you've got to make," manager Mike Redmond said of Jennings. "He's going to be fine. He'll go down there and pitch and we know he has value to us. It's a tough decision."
