Marlins' Giancarlo Stanton third-youngest active player to hit 150 HRs
Miami Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton leads the National League in nearly every offensive category as the frontrunner for MVP this season.
But his three-run homer off righty Cory Rasmus in the fourth inning of Miami's 7-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels Monday night marked an even greater accomplishment.
Stanton became the third-youngest active player to hit his 150th home run at 24 years and 290 days old. The only two ahead of him? Angels first baseman Albert Pujols (24.212) and New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez (24.255).
Only three active players have reached that milestone in fewer games than Stanton (619): Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard (495), Pujols (586) and Chicago White Sox designated hitter Adam Dunn (607).
Overall, the two-time All-Star is the 10th youngest player to achieve the mark, pushing Hall of Famer Frank Robinson down to 11th.
Monday was Stanton's first time playing at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. He has now homered in 21 different ballparks.
