Mariners' Cruz makes a splash in the Trop vs. Rays

Nelson Cruz made a splash with his home run Wednesday.

Cruz launched a 430-foot three-run home run to center field off Tampa Bay Rays reliever Brad Boxberger that landed in the Ray Tank in the top of the ninth inning at Tropicana Field, a hit that served as the difference in the Seattle Mariners' 3-0 victory.

Boxberger said he missed on a fastball that was meant to go down and away. Instead, he left the pitch up, and Cruz made him pay in a wet way.

The home run marked the fourth time overall that a ball has splashed into the Ray Tank, and it's the third occasion this has happened in the regular season. Before Wednesday, the Detroit Tigers' Miguel Cabrera was the most recent one to do it in the regular season, when he did so on June 30, 2013.
