BEREA, Ohio -- Johnny Manziel is continuing to learn about life as an NFL quarterback, but he said some of the other benefits of being in Northeast Ohio have really helped him -- like hanging out with LeBron James.
"You look fortunate enough to have a relationship with (James)," Manziel said Friday after practice. "We keep in touch. I went over to his house last week during some off time just to hang out and watch football and talk and not do much. It was good. Last night, being with him any time I'm able to be around him just to pick his brain."
Manziel went to a premier showing of "Survivor's Remorse" on Thursday night, which is scheduled to be broadcast on Oct. 4 on Starz. The show was produced by James and business partner Maverick Carter's production company.
"It was great," Manziel said. "I am extremely proud of Maverick Carter and everybody with that show. To be with Maverick and LeBron, it is a really funny great show and it has some things that have come about in my life. I'm excited for it to come out."
Manziel is represented by Carter and James' marketing company.
"I couldn't be more thankful for the way it worked out for me without me even knowing about it," Manziel said Friday after practice. "Who would've known that based on one random lunch with Maverick Carter in Toronto a year-and-a-half earlier that I would end up in Cleveland and be working with him on a daily basis and having him represent me."
Manziel said he already has season tickets for the Cavs and is excited for the guidance he has already received from James, Carter and the others he's working with.
"It's awesome how a crazy little thing in my life has turned out to be a what it is today," Manziel said. "I feel real lucky and blessed. It's been a real blessing for me with those guys. It also helps my transition here in Cleveland. There are familiar faces here and guys that have nothing but good intentions for me."
Meanwhile, Manziel is learning each week about life in the NFL and feels he'll be ready when called upon.
"I'm paying attention to everything that's (going on in the game) just like I'm in there," he said. "I'm going through the progression as the play goes. If (starting quarterback) Brian (Hoyer) or (offensive coordinator) Kyle (Shanahan) doesn't see something, I try to help out."
Manziel admitted he got a little antsy watching from the sideline last week.
"I'm still staying in my lane," Manziel said. "I get a little antsy but week by week I kept telling myself that every week that goes by is only a positive for me."
