Lynx's regular-season roster now set
MINNEAPOLIS -- Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the Lynx's 2014 roster is now set.
The team waived center Waltiea Rolle on Wednesday afternoon. Guard Christina Foggie was let go the day before, so the roster now stands at 12 players two days before the WNBA regular season begins.
In past years, Minnesota would have one more cut to make. But because the league's new CBA expanded the roster limit to a dozen, the Lynx can go into their title defense without releasing any more players.
Invited to training camp after being drafted in the third round (36th overall) last season, Rolle appeared in all three preseason games this season, averaging seven points, 4.3 rebounds and one steal per game. Foggie, picked in the second round (24th overall) of this year's draft, also played in every preseason contest, averaging 4.7 points, three rebounds and 0.5 assists per game.
The Lynx's 2014 roster breaks down as follows below. Note that guard Monica Wright and forwards Rebekkah Brunson and Devereaux Peters will miss the start of the season with knee injuries.
After winning two of the past three WNBA championships, Minnesota opens the season Friday at Washington. Its home opener, including a pregame ring ceremony and championship banner raising, is Sunday against Connecticut.
Guards: Seimone Augustus, Lindsey Moore, Lindsay Whalen, Tan White, Monica Wright
Forwards: Rebekkah Brunson, Damiris Dantas, Maya Moore, Devereaux Peters, Asia Taylor, Tricia Liston
