GROSSE POINTE WOODS, Mich. (AP) A 13-year-old Detroit area boy with a visual impairment due to albinism has been denied the use of an easier-to-see baseball during a national Little League tournament.
WJBK-TV and MLive.com report that the national organization told Ryan Huizdos' Grosse Pointe Woods team that the yellow baseball he uses while batting in local games is not approved.
Ryan played in last week's tournament, but had to swing at the traditional white ball. His team was eliminated.
Albinism is a condition in which the body doesn't produce pigment, and the skin and eyes are sensitive to sunlight.
Ryan says he can pick up pitched yellow baseballs more quickly. A white ball is used when he's not at bat.
The Associated Press left a message seeking comment Thursday from the Little League.
