Lions reportedly sign CB Florence
Just call him "Scoop" Osgood.
The Detroit Lions haven't made it official, but they are apparently on the verge of adding cornerback Drayton Florence, who was cut Friday by Denver.
The person who broke the story about Florence coming to Detroit was none other than Kassim Osgood, a receiver/special-teams standout for the Lions. They were teammates on the San Diego Chargers.
"We would like to welcome Drayton Florence to the Lions!" Osgood wrote in a message he posted Saturday on Twitter.
Florence, 31, a second-round pick by San Diego in 2003, is entering his 10th year in the NFL. He has made 96 starts, including all 16 games each of the last two seasons with Buffalo.
The Lions, meanwhile, have signed at least five players to their practice squad: Receiver Patrick Edwards, running back Stephfon Green, linebacker Carmen Messina, offensive guard Rodney Austin and cornerback Ross Weaver (Michigan State).
All had been released after participating in the team's training camp.
