The Tampa Bay Lightning will be without winger Ryan Callahan for a while.

As first reported by the Tampa Tribune, Callahan was scheduled to undergo an emergency appendectomy Monday night and is out indefinitely.

Callahan's absence Tuesday at Amalie Arena for Game 6 of the Lightning's series against the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference semifinals will be a setback for Tampa Bay, considering that the veteran provided a stabilizing presence with ample playoffs experience. The Lightning hold a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Callahan had 54 points with 24 goals in 77 games in the most recent regular season. He has three assists in 12 games in the postseason.
