DUBLIN (AP) Bernard Lapasset will not be seeking re-election as chairman of rugby's world governing body as he focuses on leading Paris' bid to host the Olympic Games in 2024.

Lapasset, who is co-chairman of Paris' bid committee, said ''we are now entering into the heart of the campaign . I hope to have the honor of being part of a successful bid from my home country.''

Lapasset informed World Rugby on Wednesday of his decision not to seek a third term. He said ''rugby has never been healthier,'' pointing to the sport's return to the Olympic program and the growth of women's rugby.

World Rugby chief executive Brett Gosper said Lapasset is ''a great leader and a true visionary, who has presided over unparalleled growth and success in our sport.''
