Lab named Heart repeats as Westminster dog obedience champ
NEW YORK (AP) She doesn't just have heart. She's got game.
A Labrador retriever named Heart won the Westminster Kennel Club's obedience championship Monday for the second year in a row. The 4-year-old lab is the only dog ever to win the contest, which started last year.
Owner and handler Linda Brennan of Columbia, New Jersey, says Heart relishes getting in the ring and ''is just a joy to work with.''
More than 30 dogs competed in the event. They had to do such things as sit still together while their handlers walked around without them and select an object their handlers had touched from a pile of similar items.
Finalists did elaborate, six-minute routines. Heart's and Brennan's routine was magic-themed, with the dog doing such tricks as pulling scarves from Brennan's sleeve.
