L.A. schools up early on ASU's 2014 football schedule
TEMPE, Ariz. -- Arizona State will open defense of its Pac-12 South football title with a road game against Colorado on Sept. 13.
Then, following a bye, the action gets hot and heavy for the Sun Devils with back-to-back dates against South rivals UCLA on Thursday, Sept. 25, and at USC on Oct. 4.
After a second bye on Oct. 11, the Sun Devils host Stanford on Oct. 18 in a rematch of the 2013 conference championship won by the Cardinal.
The complete 2014 schedule was released Wednesday by the Pac-12 Conference.
"We're excited about the upcoming 2014 season," coach Todd Graham in a release. "We have won 18 games in the past two seasons and are ready to build off that momentum. We want to finish strong in recruiting and then turn our attention to spring football practices."
ASU preps for its conference opener against Colorado with a pair of nonconference games against Weber State in the season opener on Thursday, Aug. 28, and at New Mexico on Sept. 6. The Sun Devils' third nonconference game is Nov. 8 at home against Notre Dame. It will be just the second time Notre Dame has played the Sun Devils in Tempe.
The schedule includes three non-Saturday games: the Thursday night games vs. Weber State and UCLA, both in Tempe, and the season finale at Arizona on the Friday of Thanksgiving weekend, Nov. 28.
ASU's other Pac-12 road games are Washington's remodeled Husky Stadium on Oct. 25 and Oregon State on Nov. 15.
The other home games are Utah (Nov. 1) and Washington State (Nov. 22).
Per the conference's scheduling cycle, ASU will not play Oregon and Cal for the second straight year.
Of ASU's 12 opponents, eight played in bowls this past season and five were in the final AP Top 25 poll.
The Pac-12 Championship Game, which ASU hosted this season, will be played Dec. 5 at the home field of the division winner with a better conference record or head-to-head win against the other division winner.
