Kolb, wife welcome birth of third daughter
TEMPE, Ariz. – How public has the birth of Kevin and Whitney Kolb’s third daughter been?
“I just saw it up on the ticker on the NFL Network,” Kolb said Friday after practice. “I was like, 'What just happened?’ I’ve got to keep things more private, I guess. You guys are killing me.”
At the risk of forcing corny symbolism, this season of renewal for the Cardinals quarterback got more poignant early Thursday evening, when he and his wife welcomed Saylor Kolb into the world.
Saylor checked in at 20 1/2 inches and eight pounds, 11 ounces.
“Another power forward for the Kolb family,” Kolb said. “Everything was great. Whitney did great. The baby was great. I even slept a little bit last night.”
Kolb had been concerned that the birth might interfere with a game or practice week, admitting that the perfect time would be on a Monday so that he’d have two days off to spend with his wife and child. All things considered, Thursday evening is probably the second best option. The Cards ran through what was little more than a walk-through on Friday, with Kolb present, but he had the rest of the day and much of Saturday to spend with the latest addition to the family before zeroing in on the Miami Dolphins, Sunday's opponent.
"I went right after practice so I was a little tired, and I didn’t even know that they said, ‘Hey, we’re ready to roll,’” Kolb said. “So I’m sitting there and (Whitney) said, ‘Baby, you gonna get up for this one?’"
Kolb said there were no issues with the birth.
“This is our third one so we’re seasoned vets at this,” he said. “It was quick and easy — for me, anyways.”
The Kolbs' other daughters are 3-year-old Kamryn and 2-year-old Atley, neither of whom was born during the NFL season.
