Kings sign F Brian O'Neal to entry-level contract

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Brian O’Neill to a one-year entry level contract, Kings President/General Manager Dean Lombardi announced today.

O’Neill, 23, recently completed his senior season at Yale University helping his squad advance to the ECAC Quarterfinals before being eliminated by Harvard.  O’Neill led his club with 21 goals and 46 points (21-25=46 in 35 games played).  It was the third straight season he led Yale in points and second straight that he led the team in goals.  His 25 assists ranked second on the club.  Among ECAC leaders he ranked third in goals and points, while ranking sixth in assists.  Nationally he was tied for 10th, averaging 1.31 points per game.

The 5-9, 170-pound native of Yardley, Pa. also recorded 46 points for Yale during his junior season in 2010-11, (20-26=46, in 36 games played).  O’Neill led Yale in goals and points and was tied for second in assists.  Among ECAC leaders he was second in points, tied for third in goals and tied for fifth in assists.  Nationally he was 15th, averaging 1.28 points per game.  He was named First-Team All-ECAC, First-Team All-New England, Academic All-ECAC and selected to the ECAC All-Tournament Team.

During his sophomore season in 2009-10 O’Neill recorded 45 points (16-29=45 in 34 games played). He led Yale in points, was third in goals and tied for first in assists.  Among ECAC leaders he was tied for second in both points and assists.  Nationally he was tied for seventh, averaging 1.32 points per game.

O’Neill recorded 26 points (12-14=26 in 33 games played) during his freshman season with Yale in 2008-09.  He led all club freshmen in goals, assists and points and was named to the College Hockey News All-Rookie Team and ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team.
