Kings sign defenseman Jake Muzzin to five-year contract extension

The Los Angeles Kings signed defenseman Jake Muzzin to a five-year contract extension, the team announced on Wednesday.

The new deal will keep Muzzin with the Kings through the 2019-20 campaign.

Muzzin, 25, has played in 132 regular season games for the Kings since joining the club as a free agent in 2010 and has tallied 41 points and 93 penalty minutes.  

During the 2014 Stanley Cup championship run, Muzzin played in all 26 games and had 12 points. For his career, Muzzin has appeared in 43 career playoff games (15 points).

The 6-foot-3, 216-pound Muzzin has yet play this season because of an injury and is considered to be one of the top defensemen in the NHL.
