Dean Lombardi, the president and general manager of the Los Angeles Kings, has been named Executive of the Year by the L.A. Sports Council.

Lombardi's midseason trade for Marian Gaborik helped spark the Kings to the Stanley Cup championship in 2014 as Gaborik scored 14 postseason goals. It was the second time in three years the Kings won the Stanley Cup Finals and clinched both at Staples Center.

In 2012, the first Stanley Cup championship in Kings history, Lombardi made the midseason deal for Jeff Carter.

Lombardi, who has worked as an executive and scout in the NHL for 30 years, hired Darryl Sutter after the two worked together in San Jose, and they've formed a successful pairing.

Lombardi's award will be presented March 15 at The Beverly Hilton Hotel as part of the L.A. Sports Awards show (which can be seen on FOX Sports West/Prime Ticket on a date and time TBD).

Dodgers president Stan Kasten won the award last year.

Clayton Kershaw and Mike Trout are the L.A. Sportsmen of the Year, and figure skater Gracie Gold is the Sportswoman of the Year.
