Kicker's 5th field goal wins HS game
Will Mahar was all arms and legs in a memorable high school football game Friday night in Rochester, N.Y.
The McQuaid Jesuit senior used his hands to make seven receptions for 183 yards, but it was his kicking that made the biggest impact.
Mahar booted a 52-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Knights over Rochester City Athletic Conference rival Edison Tech 22-21.
Thomas Anderson had given Edison a 21-19 lead with 11 seconds left on a 3-yard run. McQuaid quarterback Mark Nozzi completed a 41-yard pass to Mahar, who was able to get out of bounds with 0.8 seconds left to stop the clock.
Mahar made five of his six field-goal attempts in the victory. His other successful kicks covered 37 and 41 yards in the first half and 33 and 21 yards in the second half.
Mahar was selected second-team all-state as a junior by the New York State Sportswriters Association.
