Kentucky reportedly trying to stop sale of '40-0' shirts
Kentucky is on the verge of an undefeated season, and the school apparently doesn't want anyone else to capitalize on it.
According to ESPN, UK is in a battle with a Louisville lawyer who is not only selling blue-and-white "40-0" T-shirts, but also filed for the "40-0" trademark in February.
David Son says he received a cease-and-desist letter from Kentucky, even though the university does not own the trademark.
Meanwhile, Kentucky's lawyer says he's just trying to protect the school.
"We are well aware of third parties attempting to capitalize on the historic season of the University of Kentucky men's basketball team," said Jim Aronowitz, general counsel for Fermata Partners. "As the University's licensing agent, we are working to vigorously protect UK's trademark rights in the marketplace from those that use the institution's indicia without permission."
