Keenum to start for Texans against Jaguars
Texans head coach Gary Kubiak announced Monday Case Keenum will be the team's starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Matt Schaub will continue to serve as the backup quarterback.
"Case [Keenum] will start Sunday," Kubiak said during Monday's news conference. "I have total confidence in him."
Kubiak pulled Keenum in favor of Schaub during the third quarter of Sunday's loss to the Oakland Raiders when the Texans were facing a 28-17 deficit and the veteran quarterback led the offense to two field goal drives, but was unable to pull off a late win.
"Yeah, I'd do it again because of why I did it," Kubiak about his decision to bench Keenum during Sunday's game. "Was it the right (decision)? Yeah, because I think at that time, that's what I wanted to do as a coach. I knew what I was fixing to do calling the game and I didn't want to put a young guy in a bad situation... so I made that decision to go with Matt."
Despite watching the final minutes of the game from the sidelines, Keenum was confident he would get another chance to start for the Texans.
"I expect to start every week," Keenum said. "I'm going to prepare the same way. I'm going to prepare this week to be better than I was last week."
