The wait for junior college defensive tackle Quincy Russell may be close to over.

Russell, who signed with Texas out of high school before academics forced him to begin his collegiate career at Trinity Valley Community College, could be on campus this week and start practicing for the Sooners.

"From what I understand all the work is finished and we're waiting on the schools to process it all," coach Bob Stoops said. "We're hopeful it's any day now. We're close."

That's got to be good news for the Sooners, who lost five players off of the defensive line from a season ago and have lost two more to injury since camp opened this August.

Russell is expected to come in and play pretty much immediately and Stoops said he won't be behind the other defensive linemen already practicing.

"I don't want to say easy to learn, but it's about technique," Stoops said about the position. "From what we understand, he's in good shape and if that's the case, he'll pick it up quickly."
