NEW YORK (AP) John's Island squeezed out a head victory Thursday in a blanket finish in the $69,000 allowance feature for older horses at rainy Aqueduct.

A 4-year-old gelding trained by Jimmy Jerkins, John's Island got up in the final stride to cap a frantic stretch battle. Green Gratto and Glacken Too were also right there, finishing in a dead heat for second. Fourth-place finisher Loki's Vengeance was only a half-length behind the winner.

The time was 1:11.20 for six furlongs over the track rated good.

Angel Arroyo was aboard as John's Island paid $16.40, $7.40 and $5.50. Green Gratto returned $3.10 and $3.30, and Glacken Too paid $4.10 and $4.
