John's Island ends 0-for-12 skid by winning Big A feature

NEW YORK (AP) John's Island ended a 12-race losing streak with a three-quarter length victory over True Bet in the $59,000 allowance feature Thursday for New York breds at Aqueduct.

The 5-year-old gelding's previous win came at Aqueduct on March 26, 2015. This time, he rallied five wide in the mud at the top of the stretch and pulled in front in the final 70 yards.

Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard for the 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:18.89.

John's Island was coupled in the wagering with fifth-place finisher Hurry Up Alan and paid $4.50, $2.30 and $2.10. The entry was favored at 6-5.

The pacesetting True Bet returned $4.20 and $2.90, and Celtic Chaos paid $2.60 to show.
