Johnny Manziel Kicked Out of Manning Passing Academy
According to a website report, Johnny Football was kicked out of the Manning Passing Academy this weekend for being hungover and showing up late for events on Saturday.
Here's the full story.
"Our source, who wishes to remain anonymous because of his connection to the camp, gave us the scoop after Manziel showed up tardy Saturday afternoon after being out on the town Friday night. The Texas A&M star reportedly enjoyed himself a little too much Friday night and rolled back into the camp at Nicholls State University some time around noon Saturday before getting the boot."
Who kicked him out according to the report?
Archie Manning.
So far that report, which you can read in entirety here, is just a rumor but an official at the Manning Passing Academey told a local newspaper this to explain why Manziel didn't participate in Saturday's public passing challenge:
"All of the quarterbacks who served as counselors at the Manning Camp competed (Saturday) except reigning Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Manziel of Texas A&M. A Manning Camp official said Manziel was sick and returned home Saturday afternoon. The official wouldn't say if it was Manziel's decision to leave the camp early or give a reason for the quarterback's illness."
Yeah, that official comment sounds an awful lot like what you would say if you sent Manziel home for showing up late and hungover.
Especially since Manziel was so "sick" that he was out partying in College Station on Saturday night.
So it certainly sounds like Manziel showed up late after a night out partying.
Of course, lots of OKTC readers probably did much dumber stuff in college. I was once fired from four consecutive jobs from the age of 19-23 and I turned out fine, right?
Right?
Okay, nevermind.
But is this something that really needs to get out as Johnny Football prepares for the NFL Draft? A reported ejection from a passing academy from the dad of quarterback royalty?
Nope.
Johnny Football will certainly be asked about this and much more at SEC Media Days on Wednesday.
Hopefully he didn't run into this Bama fan wearing his antique football helmet.
Because things could have gotten really ugly then.
Fans like this are why I'm rooting for Manziel and A&M to beat Bama again this September 14th. There are few things more entertaining than angry Bama fans.
Update:
The Manning Passing Academy released a statement about Manziel's departure.
It reads:
"Johnny Manziel did participate in some activities in the 2013 Manning Passing Academy as a college counselor/coach. After missing and being late for practice assignments, Johnny explained that he had been feeling ill. Consequently, we agreed that it was in everyone's best interest for him to go home a day early."
Peyton Manning told family spokesperson Chris Mortensen:
"I can remember a 20-year-old Eli [Manning] missing a meeting and catching some flak. We always have counselors who leave early. Johnny was great with the campers for the time he was here. He had to leave early. I wish him the best and I want him to come back as a counselor next year."
Does this sound like ultimate good guy Peyton Maning coming to Manziel's rescue?
It does to me.
We'll see what Johnny says come SEC Media Days
They start at 8:30 in the morning.
Hope he's not feeling bad that morning too.
