Jockey Ramon Dominguez 1 of 10 finalists for racing HOF
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) Jockeys Ramon Dominguez, Victor Espinoza, Garrett Gomez, and Craig Perret are among the 10 finalists on the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame's ballot.
Also chosen by the nominating committee were thoroughbreds English Channel, Kona Gold, Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta, and trainers Steve Asmussen and David Whiteley.
Jockeys must have been licensed for 20 years and thoroughbreds are required to be retired for five years before becoming eligible. All candidates must have been active within the past 25 years.
The 39-year-old Dominguez, a three-time Eclipse Award winner who won 4,985 races and $191,620,277 in purses, rode from 1996-2013 before suffering a career-ending injury. He had the 20-year requirement waived.
Results of the voting will be announced April 25. Induction is slated for Aug. 12 in Saratoga Springs.
