After losing out on a possible defensive coordinator on Thursday, new UCLA head coach Jim L. Mora officially announced two new additions to his staff on Friday.

After being rumored for the last few weeks, Mora officially announced Noel Mazzone as the Bruins offensive coordinator.

Also announced was the hiring of Jeff Ulbrich as special teams coach.

Mazzone spent the previous two seasons as Arizona State's offensive coordinator under former head coach Dennis Erickson.

Mora has said he wants UCLA to be a multiple offense and Mazzone has excelled running a variety of systems.

"Noel is an astute offensive strategist who has run numerous offenses in his 30-plus years in football," Mora said in a statement. "We look forward to giving him the opportunity to tutor our student-athletes day in and day-out, especially at the quarterback position."

Mazzone, who will also be the Bruins' quarterbacks coach, has NFL experience spending three seasons with the Jets as wide receivers coach and one season as a consultant. He also had a stint with the 49ers.

Ulbrich spent the last two seasons as a special teams assistant for Pete Carroll in Seattle.

A former linebacker for the 49ers, Ulbrich played for Mora when the new Bruins coach was the defensive coordinator in San Francisco.

"I had the pleasure of coaching Jeff for part of his playing career; he was always one of the most dedicated and hard-nosed players on the field," Mora said. "On the day I met him, he told me he wanted to be a coach, and I am proud to help him accomplish that dream."

Ulbrich will also coach linebackers in addition to his duties as special teams coach. He was a college teammate of new UCLA offensive line coach and running game coordinator, Adrian Klemm, at Hawaii.

Mora now has two vacancies remaining to complete his staff --likely a defensive coordinator and a position coach. He is scheduled to meet with the team for the first time on Monday.
