Jerry Jones: You'll see a healthy and improved Tony Romo vs. 49ers

Even though Tony Romo took some hits during the preseason, how he holds up for an entire game has yet to be determined since his December back surgery.

From what he has witnessed during training camp and the preseason, Jerry Jones says the Romo we'll see against San Francisco will be the same Romo we saw before his back injury.

"Yes, I think physically you will see [the same player he was before the surgery]," Jones said Tuesday morning on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM]. "You'll also see an improved player relative to the experience and the time that he's spent with his new coordinator [Scott Linehan]. This is a real successful matchup, and I think these guys are going to be pretty effective with the way they work together.

"Tony basically said, 'Look, he's thinking of it before I do.' And that's something, because Tony has a lot of thoughts as he basically plays a ball game. He stays out of ahead of it pretty good. So we're going to be pretty pleased, I think, with that combination."

Romo, 34, played in the Cowboys' second and third preseason games. He attempted 23 passes in those two games, completing 14 for 167 yards, one touchdown and no interceptions.

Over the last three seasons, Romo has averaged 30 touchdown passes, 13 interceptions and 4,305 passing yards.

"I think the last couple of weeks, I think we've seen Tony really be himself," Cowboys coach Jason Garrett said Monday. "He's moved around in practice very spontaneously, made a lot of throws. He's taken hits in games. He's come back from all that stuff. He's worked very hard to get himself to a point where he's 100 percent with his back and it's going to be a work in progress for him just like it would be for anybody coming off of any kind of injury.

"He's really looked like himself to me. I think he's got that look on his face, he's got confidence about his body being where it needs to be. He like everybody else is just getting ready for this challenge this weekend."
