Jerry Jones: I'm not good at budgeting
IRVING, Texas -- Over the last couple months, Jerry Jones has seemingly been more reserved, not making bold predictions like: "Y'all should come to AT&T Stadium and watch us beat the Giants' asses."
But that doesn't mean the Cowboys owner and general manager has stopped telling entertaining stories.
Last week, Jones told reporters he had a 40-year-old brain. On Friday, when discussing the challenges he encounters with the NFL's salary cap, in only a way that Jerry can, he playfully talked about also having a scarred-up heart.
"I'm by nature not a good budget guy," Jones told the Elf & Slater show on 105.3 The Fan [KRLD-FM].
Asked if that was executive vice president Stephen Jones' job, Jerry replied, "Well, Stephen's a lot smarter than me. He didn't get that chemical engineering [degree] because he was working on drawings."
"The bottom line is that budgeting, I've always had the attitude when I bought the Cowboys, get it and get in, dig and pay for it," Jerry said. "And that's not budgeting. If they ever cut me open and look at this big heart or whatever it is – And I'm into this type of thing lately about your physical makeup, you know – But the bottom line is, when they see it all scarred-up, it will be from not budgeting, stepping out, letting my passion go for it and then figuring out how to pay for it."
