MUMBAI, India (AP) Keaton Jennings made an unbeaten half-century on debut as England reached a brisk 117-1 at lunch on Thursday, the opening day of the fourth test against India.
Jennings and captain Alastair Cook (46) shared a 99-run opening stand as England made good on their decision to bat after winning the toss.
At the break, Jennings was batting on 65 not out, while Joe Root was unbeaten on 5.
Jennings was dropped before he had scored as Karun Nair put down a tough chance at gully off the bowling of Umesh Yadav.
Jennings also survived an lbw shout off Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and the video review also went in his favor.
Spin was introduced in just the 8th over of the morning as England's openers scored at a good clip, with the run rate for the opening session being 3.7 runs per over.
Cook hit five boundaries as he made his 46 in just 60 balls before he was out stumped - only the fourth time he has been dismissed with that method in his test career - off Ravindra Jadeja (1-6) just before lunch.
Jennings then completed his half-century off 89 balls, inclusive of six fours, and England passed 100 in the 27th over.
