JaMarcus Russell's ideal plan for an NFL comeback
Before we jump in and bash the guy, he's actually making a lot of sense here. The former No. 1 overall pick said in an interview with USA Today that he wants to land with a team with an established veteran quarterback who he can sit behind and work his way back into the game. You know what, that could work. Jeff Garcia, the man working to get Russell back into playing shape, also agrees. "Those are two ideal teams: You've got Carson Palmer with Arizona and Jay Cutler with Chicago, two quarterbacks who aren't real mobile guys who are more back-in-the-pocket guys, that fits JaMarcus' playing style,'' Garcia told USA Today. So, how is JaMarcus doing with his training? Since starting two months ago at the TEST Academy, he's gone from 315 pounds to a better 281. Not bad at all. He's also apparently throwing the ball better and is beginning to regain a semblance of his former form. And as far as the report the Russell canceled a Pro Day workout for NFL scouts? Apparently, that couldn't be further from the truth. Russell says he never had one scheduled and the plan all along was to have individual workouts for any and all interested teams. OK, we'll buy it. Once again, he's still a ways away from gaining a regular season roster spot on an NFL team, but it looks like he's doing the right thing. What say we give him the benefit of the doubt for now, eh?
